The Atlas map: a paper map of inner Copenhagen with an ink track, numbered stays and a register of where and how long.
[Fig. 1] The map. The track, numbered stays and a register of where and how long. Shown with made-up data.

Home Assistant only remembers the last ten days. I wanted to look back years. So every time my phone sends a position, it goes on to a small server that keeps it for good, and the map draws it all in the same line as this site.

The system

  1. [01]

    iPhone

GPS from the Home Assistant app

  2. [02]

    Home Assistant

    Passes every point on

[A] Home Assistant keeps ten days. Atlas keeps everything.

  3. [03]

    Worker

Cloudflare. Takes it in and checks the key

[B] Two keys: the phone can only write, the map can only read.

  4. [04]

    D1

    Keeps every point for good

[C] The same point is never stored twice, so syncing again is always safe.

  5. [05]

    Map

MapLibre and D3, in paper and ink

Atlas analytics: number tiles, office hours per week, the week’s rhythm as a heatmap and travel by year.
